Founded in 1869 on January 1st at Virginia Military Institute, with headquarters in Lexington, Virginia, Sigma Nu has a rich legacy. The organization boasts over 227,000 lifetime members and 160 active chapters throughout the United States and Canada. Sigma Nu members strive to embody the founding principles of Love, Truth and Honor. In pursuit of these qualities, many brothers have achieved great success after their time in the fraternity.
Harrison Ford
Ford first became interested in acting during his years at Ripon College, where he joined Sigma Nu and took his first drama class. He started out playing small roles for Columbia Pictures and Universal Studios for several years. In the late 1970s, thanks to an earlier relationship formed with director George Lucas, Ford shot to fame for playing Han Solo in the original Star Wars trilogy. Ford went on to secure leading roles in some of the highest grossing films of all time, such as the Indiana Jones films and Blade Runner .
Paul Rudd
Rudd got his start studying theater at the University of Arkansas, where he became a Sigma Nu brother, and he later attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He achieved early film success for his prominent role in Clueless, and also worked on many films for the director Judd Apatow. He has appeared on the hit NBC comedy series Parks and Recreation . Most recently, he has played the role of Ant-Man in several Marvel Studios films, including Captain America: Civil Wa r, Avengers Endgame, Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp .
Herman B. Wells
Wells is known as a world leader in education, and was the 11th president and first university chancellor of Indiana University. Earlier, he had attended Indiana University and was very active on campus, pledging Sigma Nu among other activities. Not only did he transform IU from a small institution to a renowned and respected one, he also held many other positions of note, including economic analyst for the US State Department and a US delegate to the twelfth session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Eli Manning
Manning is a former professional quarterback, known for playing 16 seasons in the NFL for the New York Giants. He originally played college football at Ole Miss, where he also joined Sigma Nu, and after college was selected by the San Diego Chargers and traded to the Giants during the 2004 draft. Twice, Manning led the Giants to victory at the Super Bowl, and was also named MVP (Most Valuable Player) both times. He holds franchise records for the Giants for passing yards, touchdown passes, and completions.
Ronald Evans
As an American naval officer and aviator , electrical engineer , aeronautical engineer , and NASA astronaut , Evans holds the distinction of being one of 24 astronauts to have flown to the moon. Early in his life, he attended the University of Kansas where he joined Sigma Nu and earned a degree in electrical engineering. He joined the Navy after graduation and served as a fighter pilot for combat missions during the Vietnam War. In 1972, he piloted Apollo 17, the last crewed mission to the moon. He also holds the record for longest time in lunar orbit, 148 hours.
